There's No Place Like Home Parts Two and Three

In which we discover how the Oceanic Six are rescued, what happened to those who weren't (sort of) and who is in The Coffin.

I'll be going through scene by scene talking about first impressions, whether I feel things worked or not, squeeing and maybe talking about what I feel will happen next or the relevance in the overall story.

Finally, I just wanted to wish a very happy birthday to the lovely trinaweena - I hope you've had a great day so far!

Know what pisses me off?  Being compared to a Harmonian.

Know what pisses me off more than being compared to a Harmonian?  Being compared to a Harmonian by members of a fanbase so similar to the Harmonians that it makes my eyes bleed.

Here's the thing.  Star Wars?  Totally influences the producers of Lost.  Harry Potter?  Also, totally influences them.  To the point that they barely go an interview without mentioning it these days.

Let's look at the central characters in these tales, shall we?

Star Wars: Here, our trio is Luke, Leia and Han.  Luke and Leia are siblings, but they don't figure it out for a long time: they have a certain connection but they don't know what it means.  Han loves Leia, and even at the very end he's willing to let her go to Luke if that's what she wants.  But no, Leia loves Han.  So, the trio consists of the hero, the heroine and their best friend and heroine/best friend is OTP.

Harry Potter:  The Trio, is Harry, Hermione and Ron.  Harry and Hermione are like siblings, as Harry attests to in the 7th novel: they have always got on well, but she pisses him off at times with her nagging, though they care for one another deeply.  Ron loves Hermione, but he is tortured by the idea that he is not enough of a hero for her, and although it kills him (metaphorically, you understand) he's willing to stay out of Harry's way.  But Hermione loves Ron, and always has.  So, The Trio consists of the hero, the heroine and their bestest friend and heroine/bestest friend is OTP.

On the basis of these classic 20th Century love triangles, would anyone like to take a go at the trio of Lost?  Too easy, you say?  I KNOW.

And yet, it seems some people just forgot to read their Joseph Campbell.

I so can't be doing with this stuff.  Why is there never a fandom that just gets along nicely?  At least at this point most people in HP fandom are pretty experienced with the whole thing and don't make me head desk all day.  Or in this specific little corner of HP fandom, where everyone I love/who is awesome hangs out anyways.

You know what pisses me off?  daily_snitch and their recs.  I don't think I've ever seen them rec het, femslash or gen.  It's always bloody slash, and it's usually Harry/Draco or Harry/Snape.  That's not a fandom newsletter, that's a slash newsletter.  Which is why I love quibbler_report so so so so much.  *hugs it*

Oh and a big thank you to all of you who commented on the anon meme, you made me feel fuzzy and nice and etc.  I was shocked at the lack of drama as I often annoy myself so I assumed that would also be the case with my flist, lol.  I think that one thing is clear though, and that's that I need to reconnect with many of you.  And guess what?  I will be able to from now on, as I'm handing in my last essay today!

Also, if you haven't seen the Twilight trailer yet, then go watch it right now.  lusushi I am looking at you.  You will come with me to see it.  For the lulz.

I was apprehensive about it, I'll admit.  But in the end, it was better than I expected.

Back from the convention.

I had an absolutely awesome time.

I don't have much time to write an entry, so some quick points:

• I met night_sky_dream, as well as some people you guys might know from various Lost forums: Marystat, Lyly Ford, Mylene, Pauly (formally Polar Bear on LF) and Boarexpert.
• Andrew Divoff bought Sam and I breakfast on Saturday morning.
• Fredric Lehne is extremely lecherous in a fun way. :)
• Ade M'Cormack is hot.
• Fracois Chau is obsessed with Gillian Anderson.
• Bought a gorgeous notebook.
• The Skaters were all so awesome.  We had a great time chatting and speculating about Lost.  We partied like anything, and I think we were having the most of anyone there (I'm biased).
• Also, the Skaters are the hottest Lost fans :D

How are you all?  Good weekends?

Now ... dissertation!

I completely forgot to make a post last week, but I liked 4.6 a lot.  Ben creeps me out and Juliet is pretty.

Anyways, on to this week:

I'm feeling full of cold but better today.  Tried on loads of clothes that mum got me and it was awesome.

I'm getting my hair cut later.  Which is good because I have horrible split ends.  Then tomorrow I'm getting it chemically straightened.  In between these events, it's all about the fic exchanges, of course :)

I watched Across the Universe last night.  It was a bit choppy and weird at first, but then it was really very good.  I liked it a lot.

Don't laugh at me guys - it's my hormones!

Well, I'm very tired, so don't expect coherence.

I liked this better than last week.  I love this feeling - liking each episode better than the one that went before!


In other news:

I'm now 10,000 words into my dgficexchange fic.  Not sure how I feel about that fact.  I think it's not working, but having got this far I'm going to take it through to the end and then edit like hell.  (Anyone up for betaing? it won't be for a while yet but it's sure as hell going to need some work and a bit of back and forth I reckon.)

I'm pimping altusargentum a new fic journal set up by Amortentia, who I've been beta reading for for a while, and her friend Wizzardt.

I'm 21 in only 4 days.  Freaky.  My gift from RTD is Martha Jones in Torchwood, then on Thursday it's my Luau.  It looks like it's going to be mostly the biggest drinkers I know who come to the SU, and other mates coming just for drinks and stuff before.  Little do they know the Mai Tais are so strong they'll be coming to the SU with us. Bwah ha ha.

Went to pilates this morning.  It canes.

I think I actually enjoyed that more than last week's.

In other news, I watched The Jane Austen Book Club last night: Maggie Grace looks beautiful as a brunette, and was probably one of the highlights of the film for me, along with whoever the guy was. Rawr.

So I got up, started downloading, went for a shower, unzipped the episode whilst a dried my hair.

Then Sam and I cut ourselves a slice of double chocolate cheesecake (there wasn't any strawberry at Asda last night) and poured a glass of the expensive wine Emma gave to us (yes this was just gone midday) and sat down to watch Lost.  We were excited: it has been so long!

And my word, it did not disappoint.



We're hopefully seeing the 5pm showing of Cloverfield this afternoon, and if we can't we'll book tickets to the half six one and go to the pub for a while.

I'm even more excited about seeing it than before, as I found out this morning that they're running 90second Doctor Who S4 trailers ahead of certain films starting today, one of them being Cloverfield!  So I'm going to see the lovely Mr. Tennant, Ms. Agyeman and others on the big screen later!

Then after that we're going out to the union to dance to some good indie and drink.

It's basically a day of awesome geekery!

See, I'm finding these really interesting and fun, but I could see how my doing them might annoy people.  So if it does, let me know, and I'll stop.

Today I'm going to do a Lost, Harry Potter and a Heroes character.

I just finished my reading for the night (The Mimic Men is as shit as I suspected, and Catch-22 seems pretty good so far), so I decided to make some more polls on popular characters to pass the time. Then I'm going to grab a cuppa and try to get some writing done.

I've decided to do three characters today, one from three of my main fandoms. The questions differ accordingly. So yeah, answer in the fandoms that apply to you!

Last night Sam, Joey, Ellen, Adem and I played Jackface.  These are our new rules.

1. Jackface must be played during a Lost marathon.
2. Jackface must be played during the last 2/3 episodes of the Lost marathon.
3. Someone must do a shot every time Jack pulls a stupid face.
4. The first time Jack's beard appears in an episode, everyone does a shot.
5. If Jack cries, do 2 shots.
6. If Desmond says 'Brotha' someone must do a shot.
7. If Charlie says 'mate' someone must do a shot.
8. If Aaron cries, someone must do a shot.
9. If Hurley says 'dude', someone must do a shot.
10. If anyone says 'The Others' someone must do a shot.
11. If you happen to pause the DVD, and the image is a Jackface, everyone must do a shot.
12. End of episode, everyone must do a shot.

One of my favourite parts of this game, is in scenes where Jack is particularly emotional, there are random shouts of 'Jackface!' and no one is sure whose turn it is anymore.

It's a great game.  And in one episode and a 2 hour finale I had half a bottle of apple sours, half a bottle of malibu and a few shots of taboo.

I feel like I've died.

I'm archiving a bunch of drabbles I've done recently here. I've started loving drabbles recently because it's such a great little form of being able to write when you've only got a little bit of time.

As such, I'm thinking of opening a Sawyer/Kate or Lost drabble community. Thoughts?
